I value accountability and transparency so much that here is a link to all of my campaign responses to organizations and what I’ve told them about my views and stances on issues, with links to their published results where possible. I’m never saying one thing to someone and something else to another.
Evidence Based Policy
When City staff present findings on studies and recommendations based on evidence, or similarly from expensive consultancies, this should be good enough to enact policy.
I will prefer policy that reflects the realities presented by qualified staff and qualified experts.
Environmentalism and Sustainability
“The most environmentally sustainable building is the one that is already built.”
There are a lot of ways to let environmentalism and sustainability act as a filter for all policies. Whether discussing future transportation plans or the City Official Plan, environmentalism pertains to all elements: immediate and long term costs; availability, accessibility and protection of green spaces; operational procedures, ad nauseum.
I will prefer policy that prioritizes the minimization of environmental impact, and projects with a longer return of investment for the most citizens possible.
Labour Rights
It’s no joke that I take Labour Rights seriously. By being a stand-out living-wage employer at my restaurant downtown, and the only dine-in restaurant with a staunch “No Tipping” policy, my entire business was built from the ground up with the intention of adopting the most progressive workplace pay rates and policies in the city.
I will always decline policy that negates or detracts from a labourer’s rights, and prefer policy that furthers or enshrines a labourer’s rights, preferring procurement contract applications to be required to divulge pay rates and labour policies to match or surpass at least the City’s.
I denounce any government action that restricts a labourer’s right to withdraw their labour as part of their collective bargaining agreement negotiations, as legislating Back To Work is a foul, and unproductive tactic.
